RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Stars got off to a hot start in the first set versus host Concordia Chicago (3-6, 0-1 NAC) - recording 12 kills on a .478 attack percentage - and they would stay hot through all three sets as they opened their conference play with a win. With the victory, the Stars improve to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in Northern Athletics Conference play.
Dominican went on to post a .312 attack percentage on the night, with four players recording attack percentages of .333 or better. Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich./Ladywood) led the way with nine kills on a .364 attack percentage, while Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne) knocked down nine of her own.
Becca Fritz (Mount Carroll, Ill./West Carroll), Evelyn Gamboa (Chicago, Ill./Queen of Peace), and Kellie Van Voorhis (Union Mills, Ind./La Porte) combined for another 12 kills and had attack percentages of .357, .400, and .333, respectively, to contribute to the team's high percentage.
Jessica Guerrieri (Plainfield, Ill./North) dished out a match-high 30 assists on the night to run the offense, while Liz Yakey (Sun Prairie, Wis.) once again came through defensively to record a match-high 17 digs.
The Stars continue Northern Athletics Conference play this Thursday, as they host the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College. Game time is 7PM in the Igini Sports Forum.
