MILWAUKEE – After starting off the match with a 7-0 run, the Stars cruised to a set one victory over MSOE, 25-8, and went on to take sets two and three from the Raiders to stay undefeated in Northern Athletics Conference play. With the win, the Stars improve to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in NAC play.
Jessica Guerrieri (Plainfield, Ill./North) dealt out two service aces in the 7-0 run that started off the night for the Stars. She also assisted 11 of 13 kills in the set, in which the team recorded a .379 hitting percentage.
Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich./Ladywood) led the way with six kills on nine attempts, while
Becca Fritz (Mt. Carroll, Ill./West Carroll) chipped in with three of her own on four attempts.
The second set wouldn’t go as smoothly for the Stars, as MSOE (5-9, 0-2 NAC) would hang around and take the score to 13-14 before a kill by Fritz would reignite the offense and the Stars took 11 of the next 14 rally score points to finish off the set.
In the third, the score would reach 15-15 before the Stars would use a balanced attack to finish things off 25-19. From the 15-15 mark, four different Stars would knock down five kills, and the team would benefit from five Raider errors.
Dezelski and
Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne) each finished the night with double-doubles in the match, and Fritz hit for .500 with seven kills. Guerrieri dished out 33 assists in the three-set match, and defensively the Stars picked up 49 Raider attacks.
The Stars are next in action this Friday and Saturday at the Wheaton College Tournament, as they take on the hosts on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
