Box Score The Dominican University women’s volleyball team may not be getting any attention in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25, but the Stars are forcing teams around the Central Region to take note, knocking off their third Top 25 foe of the season on Wednesday, upending the University of Chicago Maroons in four sets (22-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-23).
Senior
Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo.) led the Stars’ offensive attack, knocking down 20 kills and posting a .372 hitting percentage with just four errors on 43 swings. Freshman
Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) added ten kills while
Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich.) chipped in eight kills to round out the Stars’ triple threat.
Defensively, the Stars’ led by Foote’s 18 digs, pressured the ninth-ranked Maroons into 29 hitting errors, and just a .124 hitting percentage.
Liz Yakey (Sun Prairie, Wis.) tallied 16 digs of her own while Dezelski posted ten digs while
Becca Fritz (Mount Carroll, Ill.) and Lawrence had three blocks apiece.
Chicago was paced by Maren Loe’s 12 kills and 16 digs.
The win pushes the Stars to 21-6 overall, 3-4 against top 25, while dropping the Maroons to 20-7. Dominican will return to action on Friday night, hosting the Aurora University Spartans for a 7:00 p.m. Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) tilt in the Igini Sports Forum.
