Stars Storm Past Spartans

Box Score The Dominican University women’s volleyball team made quick work of their Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) foe on Friday night, dropping the Aurora University Spartans in three sets (25-9, 25-13, 25-19).  The win pushes the Stars, ranked fifth in Thursday’s first NCAA Division III regional rankings, to 22-6 on the season and 9-1 in the NAC.

Senior Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo.) continued to carry the hot hand for the Stars, knocking down a match-high 14 kills and posting a .545 hitting percentage with just two errors on 22 swings.  Lawrence has now led the team in kills in each of the last five matches, three coming against teams in the AVCA National Top 10.

Freshman Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) and Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) continued their strong rookie campaigns with Foote tallying 12 kills on just 21 attempts while Wilson logged her team-best ninth double-double of the season with 23 assists and ten digs.

Defensively, the Stars forced the Spartans in 24 hitting errors, posting 11 blocks as a team.  Alyssa Davis (Bloomington, Ill.) got in on five of those blocks while Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich.) and Becca Fritz (Mount Carroll, Ill.) logged three total blocks apiece.

The Stars, winners of their last five matches in NAC play, return to conference action on Saturday night, traveling to Lisle to take on the Benedictine University Eagles.  The matchup promises to be a good one, with the teams posting identical 9-1 marks in play.  The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start in the Eagles’ Rice Center.
