Stepanovich Stellar In Season Finale

Box Score The 2012 season came to a close for the Dominican University women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 loss at the hands of the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons despite a stellar performance from freshman goalkeeper Sara Stepanovich (Des Plaines, Ill.), keeping the Falcons off the board until the 89th minute.

With the Stars being outshot 27-5 on the afternoon, Stepanovich made 11 saves, including the save of a penalty kick, before the Falcons finally broke a scoreless tie in the 89th minute to escape the first round of the 2012 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Women's Soccer Tournament.

Courtney Smalarz (Lemont, Ill.) and freshman Samanta Lamas (Lyons, Ill.) sured up the Stars' defense that had surrendered six goals to the Falcons just one week prior, in a 6-1 loss for the Stars, while holding midfielder Taylor Adler (Shorewood, Ill.) limited the Falcons' top offensive threat to just four shots on goal.

The Falcons' Brittany Klumpp notched the game-winner, tallying her 18th goal of the season.

Stepanovich posted a 6-7-0 record in goal for the Stars with a 1.65 goals against average in her rookie season.

The loss drops the Stars to 8-11-0, going 7-5-0 in the NAC during the regular season.
