Box Score 2 The Dominican University women’s volleyball team ran its winning streak to ten matches on Saturday, picking up wins over St. Norbert College and Carthage College, ranked 16
th in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top 25 National Poll. The Stars went 4-0 in the tournament hosted by Carthage, sharing the tournament championship with #13 University of Chicago.
In the win over St. Norbert, the Stars drop the first set 24-26 before taking sets two, three and four 25-14, 25-18, 25-15 on Saturday morning.
Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo.), the Star Classic MVP last weekend, was spectacular again for Dominican, posting 19 kills on 38 total attacks with just two hitting errors in the winning effort. Lawrence added two service aces and one assisted block for 21.5 total points while the senior standout added five digs.
Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich.) added 12 kills while freshman
Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) added ten and
Becca Fritz (Mount Carroll, Ill.) chipped in nine of her own. Foote also tallied a team-high five service aces.
Defensively,
Liz Yakey (Sun Prairie, Ill.) led the Stars with 20 digs, averaging five digs per set.
In the Stars’ win over the Carthage Lady Reds, Dominican won in straight sets, 33-31, 25-11, 28-26. Freshman
Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) ran the Stars’ offense, dishing out a season-high 31 assists. Dezelski posted a match-high 13 kills while Lawrence added 12.
Yakey logged 25 digs in the match to pace the Stars to their first win over a ranked opponent this season.
The Stars now stand at 12-2 on the season. The Stars will return to action on Wednesday night, hosting the MSOE Raiders for a 7:00 p.m. Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) match in the Igini Sports Forum.
