Box Score The Dominican University women's soccer team improved to 2-1-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) on Wednesday afternoon, picking up a 4-0 shutout victory over the visiting Alverno College Inferno.
The Stars peppered the Alverno goal with 18 shots in the first half but managed to slip just one past the Inferno's Samantha Robinson as
Leah Tednes (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) tallied her first goal of the season in the 34th minute.
Kelly Petty (Crystal Lake, Ill.) gave the Stars a little bit of breathing room in the 50th minute, getting her head on the end of a corner kick off the foot of
Gina Mazzetta (Wheeling, Ill.).Â
Dominican then broke the game open with goals by
Laura Yonke (Stevens Point, Wis.) and Kelly Iovino (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) in the 73rd and 87th minutes respectively.
Petty and Tednes finished the game with a goal and an assist apiece while Mazzetta picked up a pair of assists in the winning effort.
Freshman goalkeeper
Sara Stepanovich (Des Plaines, Ill.) was virtually untested in goal, facing just one shot in picking up her first career shutout in her first start of the season.
