Stars Outshine Eagles

Box Score The Dominican University women's soccer capitalized on a pair of corner kicks, as the Stars topped the Benedictine University Eagles, 2-1, in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action on Tuesday afternoon.

Jessica Perri (Dana Point, Calif.) put the Stars on the board as she was able to knock a loose ball into the Eagles' goal after Jessie Rosales (Schaumburg, Ill.) drove a corner kick into the middle of the six-yard box in the 51st minute. After the ball was knocked around, Perri was able to get just enough on her shot to give the Stars the lead.

The Stars took advantage of another corner kick opportunity in the 67th minute as Trisha Neidlinger (Plymouth, Ind.) drove a ball to the head of Autumn Koomler (Fort Wayne, Ind.) who slipped a header inside the near post for the freshman's fourth goal of the season.

Koomler's goal proved to be the game winner as Benedictine dodged a shutout as Nikki Jhanji slipped between two Dominican defenders before sliding a shot past the Stars' Sara Stepanovich (Des Plaines, Ill.), but the Eagles would get no closer.

The Stars doubled-up Benedictine in shots, ripping 16 shots and putting seven on goal, while the Eagles put four on frame. Dominican also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The win improves the Stars to 5-5-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the NAC while dropping the Eagles to 5-4-1 and 4-1-0 in the conference. Dominican will return to action on Saturday, traveling to Fond du Lac, Wis., to take on the Marian University Sabres. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
