Box Score The Dominican University women’s soccer team traveled to the University of Chicago on Friday afternoon, falling to the Maroons 6-1.
The Maroons scored the first goal in just the tenth minute of play and added two more in the first 45 minutes to take a 3-0 lead at the half.
Chicago continued to push offensively in the second half as Sara Kwan netted a pair of goals in the 48
th minute and 55
th minute to put the home team ahead 5-0.
Dominican finally got on the board in the 65
th minute as
Autumn Koomler (Fort Wayne, Ind.) got on the end of a corner kick off the foot of
Trisha Neidlinger (Plymouth, Ind.) and pushed the ball past the Chicago goalkeeper to narrow the gap to 5-1.
The Maroons got that goal back in the 89
th minute as Mary Bittner got loose on a breakaway to close out the scoring.
“That was embarrassing,” said Stars’ second-year head coach Ellen Brown. “We’re a better team than 6-1.”
The Maroons held a 30-5 advantage in shots, putting 16 shots on goal compared to just two shots on frame for the Stars.
The Stars will travel to Milwaukee, Wis., on Tuesday to open Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play against the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors. The Stars will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak since opening the season with a 2-0 win over Lawrence.
