Box Score The Dominican University women’s basketball team cut a 15-point deficit down to three, 52-49, with 8:25 to play before the visiting Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders outscored the Stars 18-6 down the stretch to escape Dominican with a 70-55 victory.
Katie Budz (Orland Park, Ill.) dropped in one of her two three-point field goals to pull the Stars within three before the Crusaders responded with a 15-3 run over the next 6:35 to erase any hope Dominican had of pulling of the comeback.
Budz finished the night with 12 points on 4-for-12 shooting from the field, including 2-for-5 from three-point distance, while going 2-for-3 at the foul line and playing the full 40 minutes.
Stacy Reynolds (La Grange Park, Ill.) added 12 points while
Haley Tyler (Nenana, Alaska)dropped in a career-high ten points in the losing effort.
Laci Peterson led five players in double-figures scoring for the Crusaders with 15 points. The 6’1 junior added six rebounds and a game-high nine blocks. Kristin Morrison logged a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while Torey DeLozier added 14 points and Hallie Sheley dropped in 13.
As a team, the Crusaders shot 26-for-61 from the field, connecting on 3-of-10 from three-point range, while the Stars were just 18-for-63 from the field.
The Stars return to the hardwood on Wednesday, traveling to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. in the Warriors REX Center.
