Box Score 2 After topping the Wheaton College Thunder and Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders on Friday evening, the Dominican University women's volleyball team pushed their winning streak to five matches with a 3-1 win over Lake Forest College followed by three-set victory over the North Central College Cardinals on Saturday at the Concordia University Chicago Fall Invite on Saturday.
After dropping the first set to the Foresters 19-25, Dominican shook off the early morning cobwebs to win the next three sets 25-17, 25-15, 25-22.
Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich.) continued to carry the hot hand for the Stars, knocking down a match-high 17 kills and posting a .389 hitting percentage. Junior setter
Becky Honerlaw (Waukesha, Wis.) dished out 40 assists while
Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) added nine kills in the winning effort. Freshmen
Tessa Griparis (Shorewood, Ill.) and
Maddi Zanoni (Hudsonville, Mich.) tallied eight kills apiece.
Defensively, Dezelski and Honerlaw completed their double-double efforts with 13 and ten digs respectively while Dezelski added three total blocks (two solo, one assist).
The Stars' win over North Central came with a much more balanced offensive attack coupled with 33 unforced Cardinals' errors. Dezelski and freshman
Carri Chambers (Winnebago, Ill.) shared match-high honors with ten kills apiece while Foote added nine kills to go along with a match-high 16 digs.
The perfect weekend pushes the Stars to 11-5 overall with a match against the UW-Oshkosh Titans on the schedule for Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Stars' Igini Sports Forum.
