Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stars Fall To Cardinals In Non-Conference Play

The Dominican University women's soccer team came up on the short side of a 2-1 double overtime decision in River Forest on Saturday afternoon, falling to the North Central College Cardinals as the Stars' took a weekend off from Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action.

Taylor Adler (Shorewood, Ill.) gave the Stars a 1-0 advantage in the 60th minute, scoring her third goal of the season as she slipped in behind the Cardinals' backline, getting on the end of a through-ball played by Kelli Iovino (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and poking a shot inside the far post.

Dominican played with the lead for the next ten minutes until the Cardinals struck on a shot from 28-yards out lifted by Caitlyn Orawiec in the 70th minute.  Orawiec's shot tipped off the hand of Dominican's goalkeeper, Sara Stepanovich (Des Plaines, Ill.), then hit the crossbar and redirected toward the goal line.  Play continued for a few moments before the center official went to confer with his linesman and then pointed to the center circle to signify a good goal, knotting the score at 1-1.

The score remained tied through regulation and one overtime period all the way into the 103rd minute when Hannah Magiera got a head on Nicholette Fulk's corner kick service.

Stepanovich made six saves for Dominican as the Stars were outshot by a slight 14-11 margin with the Cardinals putting eight shots on frame to Dominican's six shots on goal.

The loss drops the Stars to 8-7-0 on the season.  Dominican returns to NACC play on Wednesday, taking to the pitch at West Campus Field to take on the MSOE Raiders.  Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. between the two sides tied for fourth in the NACC standings.
