Stars Drop Sabres In Three Sets

The Dominican University women's volleyball team disposed of the Marian University Sabres in three sets on Wednesday night (25-7, 25-12, 25-21), remaining undefeated in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play and setting up a battle between the last two unbeaten teams in the conference on Friday night.

The Stars held the Sabres a negative hitting percentage (-.086) on the evening, forcing the Sabres into 25 errors while allowing just 16 kills.  The Stars posted five total blocks at the net and collected 55 digs in the three-set win.  Cheyanne Kelly (Kalamazoo, Mich.) led the way with ten digs while four different players tallied two blocks apiece.

Offensively, Dominican hit .269 for the match, cooling off in the third set after hitting .458 and .316 in the first and second set respectively.  Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.), playing in just the first two sets, dished out 26 assists while Morgan Wallin (Greenville, Mich.) doled out 13 assists in the third set.  In total, ten different players tallied at least one kill for Dominican, led by Carri Chambers (Winnebago, Ill.) who knocked down 11 kills on 21 total attacks.

The win puts the Stars on a collision course with the Concordia University Wisconsin, the only other undefeated team in conference play, on Friday night.  The teams will battle for sole possession of first place in the conference on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the Igini Sports Forum.
