Stars Split Day One Of Eagle Classic

After winning their tenth match in a row with a three-set (25-17, 25-21, 25-16) win over North Central College to open the Eagle Classic hosted by Benedictine University, the Dominican University women's volleyball team dropped a four-set (25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23) match to the DePauw University Tigers to snap the Stars' longest winning streak of the season.
 
In the win over the North Central Cardinals, Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) and Maddi Zanoni (Hudsonville, Mich.) piled up double-digit kills as Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) totaled 30 assists.  Foote knocked down 12 kills on 31 attempts while committing just two errors to post a .323 attack percentage while Zanoni hit .304 with 10 kills on 23 attempts, committing three errors.
 
Defensively, the Stars held the Cardinals to an attack percentage of .077 as Dominican collected 57 digs with Wilson and Foote rounding out double-double efforts with ten digs apiece while Olivia Szuszkiewicz (Barrington, Ill.) posted a match-high 12 digs.
 
After a short break, the Stars returned to the court to take on the Tigers. Dominican committed a total of 40 errors in the loss, including 24 attack errors with the Tigers collecting eight total blocks.
 
Foote again knocked down a team-high 14 kills but also committed 11 errors as the junior took a total of 62 swings, hitting just .048 in the losing effort.  Carri Chambers (Winnebago, Ill.) added ten kills while Zanoni knocked down nine and Tessa Griparis (Belleair, Fla.), Kendyl Todd (Crete, Ill.) and Wilson added eight kills apiece.
 
With the Stars collecting 60 kills as a team, Wilson dished out 44 assists.
 
Defensively, five players collected double-digit digs for the Stars led by Cheyanne Kelly's (Kalamazoo, Mich.) match-high 23 digs.  Wilson and Foote again rounded out double-doubles with 14 digs apiece.
 
The Stars now stand at 22-9 on the season with the regular season coming to a close on Saturday with Dominican taking on Carthage College and the University of Chicago on the second day of the Eagle Classic.
