The Dominican University women's soccer team took the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) regular season champion Aurora University Spartans to overtime in the conference semifinals falling, 3-2, on Brittany Roydhouse's 11
th goal of the season in the 94
th minute.
The Stars trailed twice in the contest, evening the score at 1-1 on
Taylor Adler's (Shorewood, Ill.) goal in the 50
th minute and then knotting the score at 2-2 on
Kelli Iovino's (Arlington Heights, Ill.) 17
th goal of the season in the 70
th minute.
The Spartans' outshot the Stars 26-5 in the match, putting seven shots on goal with the Stars'
Sara Stepanovich (Des Plaines, Ill.) credited with four saves.
Dominican was able to withstand a late Spartans' rush over the final 15 minutes of regular time, and then got dangerous in the overtime as Iovino got on the end of
Kelly Gerwitz's (Florissant, Mo.) corner kick service in the 93
rd minute.
With the loss, the Stars' 2014 campaign comes to a close, posting an overall record of 11-8-0 and going 7-3-0 in the NACC.
