The Dominican University men's soccer team fell in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action on Tuesday evening, falling to the Benedictine University Eagles, 2-1, on the road in Lisle. The loss is just the second loss suffered by the Stars in NACC regular season action since 2006, falling to the Eagles a year ago in River Forest.
"We don't have enough discipline in our game right now and we are paying for it," said the Stars' head coach Erick Baumann.
The Eagles broke a scoreless tie in the 66
th minute, as Steve Mack's drop kick led to a through ball played to Nick Kapetanos who beat
Zach Watson (Carol Stream, Ill.) for his fifth goal of the season.
Eight minutes later, the Eagles added to their lead, scoring what proved to be the game winner when Edgar Reyes got on the end of a cross by Kapetanos and beating Watson inside the far post.
Dominican finally got on the board in the 82
nd minute, scoring on a set piece as
Logan Marvin (Johnston, Iowa) drove a header past the Eagles' Mack for his first goal of the season.
The Stars had an opportunity to score the equalizer on another restart in the 90
th minute but this time Mack was able to make a diving save at the near post on another shot by Marvin.
Dominican outshot the Eagles 8-6, putting four shots on goal while the Eagles fired three shots on target. The Stars also earned five corner kick opportunities while not giving up a corner to the host Eagles.
The loss drops Dominican to 3-4-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the NACC. The Stars will look to get back on track, returning home for the first time in two weeks when they host the Marian University Sabres on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at West Campus Field.
