Box Score 2 The Dominican University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the IIAC-NACC Challenge, rallying for a five-set victory over the 22
nd-ranked Coe College Cohawks before falling to the Wartburg College Knights in three sets. The Stars pick up play early tomorrow morning, taking on Luther College at 9am before closing the conference challenge against the host Loras Duhawks at 1pm.
The Stars dropped the first two sets to the Kohawks 25-20 and 25-16 before pulling out a 26-24 win in the third set that swung the momentum. After a 25-23 win in the fourth set evened the score, Dominican closed out the win with a 15-11 win in the fifth set.
Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) was one of three Stars to post a double-double in the win, dishing out 59 assists in running a well-balanced offensive attack while collecting 13 digs.
Dominican hit .219 as five hitters reached double-digit kills led by
Maddi Zanoni (Hudsonville, Mich.) who posted 16 kills on 34 swings.
Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) added 14 kills and
Kendyl Todd (Crete, Ill.) knocked down 12 while
Carri Chambers (Winnebago, Ill.) and
Tessa Griparis (Belleair, Fla.) tallied 11 kills apiece.
Defensively,
Cheyanne Kelly (Kalamazoo, Mich.) led five in double-digit digs for the Stars with 19 digs. At the net, Dominican posted 12.5 blocks with Griparis and Zanoni in on six total blocks apiece.
In the loss to the Wartburg Knights, Dominican fell in three sets, 25-21, 25-23, 25-20, hitting just .136 in the loss. Griparis knocked down a team-high 12 kills while Kelly again led the defensive effort with 14 digs.
