Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Stars Downed In NCAA Tournament

The Dominican University women's volleyball team saw their season come a close on Thursday afternoon in Grand Rapids, Michigan, falling for the fourth consecutive season in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship, this time dropping a three-set decision to the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans (25-18, 25-18, 25-22).

The Titans offense, powered by sophomore Kyleigh Block, an AVCA All-Midwest Region First Team selection, and Tyler Brown, the AVCA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year, proved to be too much for Dominican.  Block and Brown combined for a .250 attack percentage and 27 of the Titans' 47 kills with Block knocking down a match-high 14 kills.

Across the net, Dominican managed to hit just .106 in their final match of the season with Kendyl Todd (Crete, Ill.) and Rosalyn Wyse (Greenville, Mich.) collecting eight kills apiece to lead the way.

Senior setter Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) capped her Dominican University career with her 24th double-double of the season, posting 24 assists and 12 digs while classmate Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) posted a team-high 17 digs in her final match in a Stars' uniform.

"We're a great team but we didn't do the little things that we needed to do to win," said second-year head coach Jeanne Czipri following the match.  "Props to Illinois Wesleyan, they did. I really think that is what the difference is.  We can compete against them, we just didn't take care of what we needed to today."

The Stars finish 25-10 on the season, surpassing the 20-win plateau for the seventh consecutive season and posting the 4th best winning percentage in program history.
