We Meet Again…Stars And Eagles To Meet For NACC Title

Dominican University and Edgewood College have developed quite the rivalry on the volleyball court and the sides will meet again on Saturday in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), the fourth meeting in the last five years for the Stars and Eagles in the NACC title match.  After meeting for the 2014 championship in River Forest, this year the action returns to Madison where the Eagles edged the Stars 3-2 earlier this year to hand Dominican its lone defeat in conference play.

"We are really excited to go back up against Edgewood," commented Jeanne Czipri, the Stars' head women's volleyball coach in her second season.  "It's a great team; they have a great group of girls.  Paul [Schlomer] coaches them well.  They are efficient in system and have a lot of weapons along with a strong defensive scheme. It's going to come down to which team executes better and which team makes fewer errors."

Saturday's matchup will pit NACC Co-Players of the Year, Dominican's Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) and Edgewood's Jordan Winkler, against one another with the winner receiving the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championships.  Wilson captained the NACC's most efficient offense, setting the Stars to a .202 hitting percentage while dishing out 11.29 assists per set.  The Stars' senior setter led the NACC with 22 double-doubles, including a 50 assist-16 dig effort in the Stars' four-set, semifinal win over Concordia Wisconsin.

Winkler was the lone player in the NACC to rank in the top five in both kills (308) and digs (447).  The Eagles' senior averaged 2.59 kills per set and posted a .221 attack percentage on more than 951 attempts, leading Edgewood to their third NACC regular season NACC championship in program history.

The Stars and Eagles have met 14 times since joining the NACC in 2006 and 19 times total.  Dominican holds an 11-8 advantage in the all-time series, including winning three of the last four meetings.  Dominican is in search of its fourth conference tournament championship and fifth NCAA Division III national tournament appearance while Edgewood looks for the second NACC Tournament crown and national tournament appearance in program history.

Saturday's match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start with live coverage starting at 6:50 p.m. at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/dustars.
