The Dominican University women's volleyball team, winners of the 2015 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament Championship, will face the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans (22-9) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Thursday. Dominican landed its spot in the 2015 national tournament on Saturday when the Stars topped Edgewood College in five sets in the NACC Tournament Championship while the Titans received one of just 20 Pool C 'at-large' bids from across the country.
The Stars, 25-9 on the season, are 1-8 against the Titans all-time, scoring their lone victory in the series matchup in 2012 when Dominican topped Illinois Wesleyan in four sets (18-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-18) at the Carthage College Tournament. The Stars and Titans met again in 2014, with the Titans sweeping the Stars (26-24, 25-22, 25-23) at the Barker Chevrolet Classic hosted by Illinois Wesleyan.
For Dominican, it will be the Stars' fifth national tournament appearance all-time, having appeared in four of the last five tournaments leading into 2015, while the Titans will make their fourth appearance in the tournament, but their first since 1998. Neither side has ever won a national tournament match with the Titans entering Thursday's matchup 0-3 all-time in the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship since their first appearance in 1991 while the Stars stand at 0-4 since making their NCAA Division III national tournament debut in 2010.
The rest of the matchups at the Calvin College regional include the host Knights against the Cornell College Rams, UW-Stevens Point against Elmhurst College and Carthage College against UW-La Crosse. Ticket prices and match times will be announced later on Monday.
