Stars Topped In River Forest Rivalry Game

The Dominican University men's basketball team closed out the 2014-2015 season on Wednesday evening, falling to the Concordia University Chicago Cougars 80-73 in the Igini Sports Forum.

Josh Mayberry (Canton, Mich.) dropped in a game-high 24 points on 8-for-19 shooting from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range.  The Stars' 6'3 sophomore guard also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds in logging his third double-double of the season.

The River Forest rivals traded leads throughout the entire first half with a three by Dominican's Ryan Modiest (Joliet, Ill.) cutting a four-point Cougars lead down to one, 42-41 at the break.

Modiest later knocked down another three early in the second half giving the Stars a 46-45 advantage with 18:26 to play.  After a stop on the defensive end, the Stars' Tim Robertson (Chicago, Ill.) extended the Stars lead with a put-back bucket before the Cougars embarked on a 15-3 run, capped by an Adam Giger three, that gave Concordia Chicago a 60-51 lead they would never relinquish.

Robertson added 14 points and 11 boards while Modiest chipped in 11 points, connecting on three of five attempts from three-point distance.  Rich Bodee (Darien, Ill.) came off the Stars' bench to score 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 27 minutes.

As a team, the Stars shot 38 percent from the field and 44 percent (11-25) from three but converted on just eight of their 15 attempts from the foul line.

Kylan Anderson dropped in a team-high 17 points for the Cougars in the winning effort, going 5-for-10 from three.

The loss drops the Stars to 2-23 overall and 2-18 overall to close out the year.
