The Dominican University women's basketball team held a one-point, 35-34, lead at half but shot just 26 percent from the field, including 0-for-8 from three, and committed 11 second half turnovers as the Stars fell to the visiting Alverno College Inferno 72-59 on Tuesday night in the Igini Sports Forum.

Dominican led by as many as nine as they shot over 46 percent from the field in the first half, led by
Sidney Montano (Bensenville, Ill.) and
Allie Tapanes (Winfield, Ill.) who combined for 21 points in the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, Montano was limited to just 11 minutes before fouling out with 2:32 to play while Tapanes cooled off, going just 2-for-7 from the field, including missing on all three of her attempts from behind the three-point stripe.

Montano finished with a game-high 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field and converting on six of her nine attempts from the foul line. Tapanes added 16 points with six rebounds and four assists while
Shamia Clark (Rock Island, Ill.) chipped in ten points in the losing effort.

Alverno was paced by Julie Gallegos who dropped in 17 points in 38 minutes of work.

Dominican, now 1-20 on the season and 0-16 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), return to action on Saturday, hosting the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in the Igini Sports Forum.
