Stars Take Two From Mount Mary

The Dominican University softball team moved to 11-3 on the year with a pair of victories over the Mount Mary Blue Angels on Saturday evening at the Ballpark in Rosemont.  The Stars' offense pounded out 25 hits on the day while Dominican's pitching staff surrendered just five hits total to the visiting Blue Angels.

With Sunday's twinbill at St. Mary's College (IN) postponed due to predicted game-time temperatures in the 30s, Dominican will return to the Ballpark on Tuesday, hosting the North Park University Vikings for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.

Game One:  Dominican 8, Mt. Mary 1

In game one, senior Sarah Slouber (Willow Springs, Ill.) moved to 3-0 in the circle, tossing six innings in an 8-1 win for the Stars.  Slouber surrendered just one unearned run on two hits and four walks while striking out seven.

Offensively, nine different players collected hits for the Stars, led by Marissa Burns (Shorewood, Ill.), Alyssa Domico (Naperville, Ill.) and Lindsey Dudek (Posen, Ill.) who had two hits apiece.  Kaitlyn Tripp (Imperial, Mo.) added an RBI triple while Allie Evans (Greenwood, Ind.) belted an inside-the-park home run.

Game Two:  Dominican 13, Mt. Mary 1 (5 Inn.)

The Stars' offense knocked out 13 hits, including the first home run of the season for Ali Woitovich (Downers Grove, Ill.), in support of three Dominican University pitchers as the Stars rolled over the Blue Angels in game two, 13-1.

Haley Locher (Lisle, Ill.) was awarded the win, tossing two innings in relief of Michelle Behrens who started her fourth game of the season.  Locher was charged with one run on two hits and one walk while punching out five.

Burns was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored.  The freshman is batting .564 on the season with a .795 slugging percentage and has reached base safely in all 14 games to start her collegiate career.
