Big Inning Dooms Stars In Non-Conference Tilt

Tied 4-4 after seven innings, the Loras College Duhawks pushed across five unearned run in the top of the eighth on five hits and three Dominican University errors, knocking off the Stars 10-7 at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg.

Dominican managed to bring the tying run to the plate after Loras tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth, but the Stars left the bases loaded when Loras' Robert Hovey got freshman Joe Kukla (Chicago, III.) on strikes to end the game.  In total Dominican stranded 13 runners, eight over the last three innings.

Defensively, the Stars committed five errors on the day, leading to eight unearned runs as three Dominican pitchers combined to allow just two earned runs on 14 hits and three walks.  Freshman Tyler Brown (Bartlett, III.), who won his first collegiate game on Sunday, suffered the loss, falling to 1-1.  Brown came on in the eighth and was charged with six runs, just one earned, on five hits and three walks over the final two innings.

Offensively, freshman Colin Janison (Las Vegas, Nev.) upped his team-leading batting average to .404 with three hits, going 3-for-3 with a double and two walks.  The Las Vegas native has hit safely in each of Dominican's 16 games to start the season and has driven in a team-high 11 runs.

For the Duhawks, Connor Schreck was credited the win, giving up two hits and a walk in one inning of work.

The loss drops Dominican to 5-11 on the year with a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) series with the MSOE Raiders on deck when the Stars travel up to Milwaukee on Saturday.  Dominican then returns to Boomers Stadium on Monday for a twinbill with the Lakeland College Muskies.
