Stars Blanked In Non-Conference Loss

The Dominican University baseball team managed just three hits Tuesday evening in a 10-0 loss at Wheaton College in non-conference play.  Tyler Brown (Bartlett, III.), making his first start of the season, suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings of work.  The freshman struck out six in the game as he fell to 1-3 on the season.

Leading 5-0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Thunder pushed across five runs against left-handed reliever Ryan Freeman (Barrington, R.I.) who worked two innings out of the Dominican bullpen.

Offensively, Dominican stranded six runners in seven innings, including loading the bases in the top of the fourth with one out before bouncing into an inning ending double play.  In the third, the Stars' Alex Hernandez (Des Plaines, III.) led off the inning with a double down the left field line.  Later in the inning, Cody Schuster (Las Vegas, Nev.) walked to put runners at the corners with two down, but Hernandez was picked off at third when Wheaton's Josh Arevalo, who tossed a complete game, stepped off the mound, faked a throw to first before whirling to catch Hernandez leaning towards the plate.

For the Thunder, Arevalo improved to 3-2, scattering three hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out five.

The loss drops the Stars to 10-15 overall with another non-conference tilt on deck for Wednesday when the Stars travel to Elmhurst College to take on the Bluejays.  First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Butterfield Park.
