The Dominican University baseball team plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth to rally past the IIT Scarlet Hawks, 5-3, on Tuesday evening at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium.
Daniel Supple (Albany, Calif.) picked up the win, tossing three innings of three-hit baseball, surrendering one run and striking out two.
Trailing 3-1 with three outs in the bottom of the eighth,
J.T. Hicks (Albion, Mich.) roped a single to left center with the bases loaded, scoring
Tim Varallo (Chicago, III.) and
Cody Schuster (Las Vegas, Nev.) to knot the game at 3-3. Three pitches later, Dominican took their first lead when IIT's Andrew Lamkin uncorked a wild pitch to allow
Alex Hernandez (Des Plaines, III.) to come across for the go-ahead run.
Richie Green (Chicago, III.) then capped the scoring with an RBI single to right, the senior's second hit of the game.
For the Stars,
Colin Janison (Las Vegas, Nev.) got the start, scattering six hits over six innings while striking out three. The freshman was charged with just two unearned runs when the Stars committed three errors over the first two innings.
After the Scarlet Hawks got one run in the top of the first, Schuster evened the score with a two-out single down the left field line to plate
Quinlan Milne Rojek (Minneapolis, Minn.). IIT pulled back in front in the top of the second and the score remained 2-1 all the way until the top of the eighth.
Milne Rojek finished 4-of-5 at the plate with four singles while Schuster went 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI single.
With the win, Dominican improves to 12-24 on the year, dropping the Scarlet Hawks to 20-7. The Stars return to the confines of Schaumburg Boomers Stadium on Wednesday evening, hosting the North Central College Cardinals. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
