Stars Clipped By Falcons In Season Finale

The Dominican University softball team dropped a 5-1 ballgame to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons on Friday morning, on day two of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament, dropping the Stars to 27-14 to close out the 2015 season.

Dominican led 1-0 after three innings as the Stars executed a double steal with Allie Evans (Greenwood, Ind.) on third and Ashley Rea (Lockport, Ill.) at first.  However, the Stars failed to capitalize and add runs despite three hits in the inning.  The Stars had one runner gunned down at the plate as Alyssa Domico (Naperville, Ill.) tried to score from second on Evans' single to left.  The Stars also stranded a runner, one of seven left on base for Dominican, when Sara Hausl (St. Charles, Ill.) bounced out to end the inning.

The Falcons pulled in front in the bottom of the fourth on Carly Sobrilsky's three run home run to break up the shutout.  Concordia Wisconsin added one more run in the fourth when Deidra Weinberger reached on a Dominican error, allowing Andrea Thiry to cross for an unearned run.

After Dominican managed just a two-out single in the top of the fifth, the Falcons added an insurance run when Sarah Slouber (Willow Springs, Ill.) hit a batter with two outs before surrendering an RBI double to right center off the bat of Jamie Reiser.

The Stars put runners in scoring position in each the top of the sixth and seventh, but could not score as Concordia Wisconsin's Melissa Perkins tossed a complete game, scattering eight hits over seven innings, walking none and striking out one.

For the Stars, lefty freshman Michele Behrens (Frankfort, Ill.) suffered the loss, falling to 10-6 in the circle to cap her rookie campaign.  Behrens was charged with four runs, three earned on six hits and no walks.  Offensively, Rea, Domico and Kaitlyn Tripp (Imperial, Mo.) collected two hits apiece in the losing effort.
