Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Stars Split Tri In Decatur

The Dominican University women's volleyball team traveled to Decatur, Illinois, on Tuesday to open the 2015 season with a tri-match featuring the Stars, Greenville College Panthers and host Millikin University Big Blue.  The trio of teams split the tri-match evenly with Dominican dropping their season opener to the Panthers in four sets (25-18, 13-25, 25-23, 25-21) before topping the Big Blue in four sets (13-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-17).

"It was a slow start to the day with a lot of undisciplined errors," commented Jeanne Czipri, the Stars' head coach in her second season, when asked about her team's performance on Tuesday evening. "Some of those errors carried into the start of match two but I was happy to see some girls really step up or even step into a new role on the team and do some great things.  Once we got back to doing the little things, it was a competitive and fun match."

Dominican out-hit the Panthers in the loss to Greenville, posting a .244 attack percentage behind 12 kills apiece for sophomores Kendyl Todd (Crete, Ill.) and Alex Kisten (Huntley, Ill.)Carri Chambers (Winnebago, Ill.) added 11 kills of her own as Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.), who ranked second nationally last year at 11.11 assists per set, dished out 44 assists in utilizing five different attackers.

The Panthers' offense was paced by Allyson Mitchell who knocked down 16 kills to lead three hitters in double-figure kills.

In the win over Millikin, it was Chambers' turn to share team-high honors with Kisten, collecting 12 kills apiece.  Tessa Griparis (Belleair, Fla.), who had nine kills in the first match of the day, tallied ten kills in the win as the Stars' hit an impressive.336, limiting their offensive mistakes to just ten errors.

Wilson amassed 43 assists while Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) led the defensive effort with a match-high 18 digs.

Dominican heads up to Minnesota on Friday, taking on Loras College and University of Northwestern on Friday and College of St. Scholastica and Augsburg College on Saturday at the Northwestern Tournament.
