Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Comeback Falls Short Against Foresters

The Dominican University women's soccer team returned to the West Campus pitch on Sunday, falling 3-2 to the Lake Forest College Foresters in non-conference action.  The loss drops the Stars back to 4-4-0 on the season with a meeting with the Concordia University Chicago Cougars on deck for Wednesday in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action.

The Stars fell behind 2-0 at half as the Foresters' Holly Lesperance and Lindsay Hartup each had a first half tally and Lake Forest outshot the Stars 7-2.

Dominican narrowed the gap to 2-1 just three minutes into the second half when a Lake Forest foul on the Stars' Kelli Iovino (Arlington Heights, Ill.) set up a free kick for Dominican from 20-yards out.  On the free kick, Dominican's Taylor Adler (Shorewood, Ill.) drilled a shot out of the reach of Lake Forest's Kaylee Price and off the crossbar before crossing the goalline for the senior's third goal of the season.

Lake Forest's lead grew back to two goals just a couple minutes later when a free kick from 37 yards out popped off a Dominican defender's head and into the Stars' goal to move the score to 3-1.

Dominican pulled back within one goal in the 66th minute when Tania Paez (Chicago, Ill.) rolled a ball from out near midfield in behind the Foresters' backline and teammate Valerie Sanchez ( Lombard, Ill.) was able to run it down near the left corner of the 18-yard box before poking a shot that rolled in past Price who was off her line.

Despite nine second half shots, Dominican could not get any closer.

"We competed and battled against a tough, physical and athletic team," said head coach Carlos Carrillo following the match. "We had two bad breakdowns that ended up in the back of the net and against good teams you cannot get away with that."

"After being down two goals at half, we came out strong in the second half," Carrillo continued. "We battled back and I was proud of our effort and energy but ultimately we still came up short in the end. We showed we can fight and battle back into any game.  We will learn and grow from this one."
