The Dominican University women's basketball team faced a tall task on Saturday evening, falling to the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) leaders, the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors, 72-49.
Â
For the Stars,
Jasmyn Hardin (Cincinnati, Ohio) notched her tenth double-double of the season, dropping in a team-high 19 points and grabbing ten rebounds in the losing effort.
Â
The Stars kept pace with the perennial conference leader throughout the first half, trailing just 28-23 at the break before a 26-point quarter for the Warriors in the third put the game out of reach.
"It was the tale of two halves tonight," said Gabby Johnson, head coach of the Stars. "The first half embodied everything I know our team can bring to the table. The second half lacked all the focus and execution that the first had, and when you're playing a team like WLC you have to focus and execute for 40 plus minutes."
Â
"It's all about believing that you have what it takes to play that way all the time."
Â
The Warriors shot near 50-percent from the field, going 10-for-19 from three-point range, while Dominican managed to convert at just a 32-percent clip from the field and going 4-for-23 from three.
Â
The loss drops the Stars to 3-16 overall and 2-12 in the NACC with a game at Alverno on Tuesday night up next for Dominican.
