The Dominican University men's volleyball team had their program-best hot start to the 2016 season halted on Sunday afternoon, when the Graceland University Yellowjackets swept the Stars 25-22, 25-16, 25-20.  Dominican committed 16 serving errors, six blocking errors and 12 attack errors and went just 46-73 on sideouts, good for 63 percent.
 
"We need to put this one behind us," said Dan Ames, the Stars' third-year head coach.  "We really played awful but tomorrow is a new day and we need to get in the gym and work to prepare for North Central on Tuesday.  It is our conference opener and it is important that we come ready to play."
 
For the Stars, Luke Spicer (St. Charles, Ill.) tallied nine kills and a solo block in the losing effort while Mason Solbrig (Lindenhurst, Ill.) collected five kills and a pair of aces despite five serving errors.
 
Dominican opens Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) play on Tuesday when the North Central College Cardinals come to Dominican for a 7:00 p.m. match in the Igini Sports Forum.  The Stars then face their first AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Poll top 15 opponent when the fourth-ranked UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs visit River Forest on Friday night.
