The Dominican University women's volleyball team overcame a slow start to rally past the Concordia University Chicago Cougars in four sets (24-26, 25-21, 25-23, 25-13) on Tuesday evening in River Forest.
"The rivalry was definitely alive tonight," commented
Jeanne Czipri, the Stars' head coach, following the match. "The crowd was a blast to play in front of, adding energy to the gym. As a whole, we had a few early struggles but finished on an aggressive note."
Dominican's balanced offensive attack hit .179 for the match with
Tessa Griparis leading the way with eight kills.
Kendyl Todd,
Rosalyn Wyse,
Alex Kisten and
Stephanie Cole knocked down seven kills apiece while
Jackie Mursuli doled out 25 assists and collected six kills of her own on 11 attacks.
"Tessa had a great night," said Czipri. "I was really impressed with her work ethic and decision-making."
Defensively, Dominican's block set the tone, posting 11 total blocks to hold the Cougars' attack to an attack percentage of .056. Griparis got in on five total blocks while Todd and
Becky Dent collected four apiece. In the back row,
Audrey Wyse tallied a team-high 20 digs while Rosalyn Wyse posted ten.
Dominican, now 7-15 overall and 5-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), continues to navigate league play, traveling to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Friday night to take on the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors.
