The Dominican University women's soccer team could not overcome a sluggish start, falling to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons 2-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action on Saturday afternoon at West Campus Field.
"It was disappointing the way we came out and played today," said Dominican's head coach Carlos Carrillo. "Concordia Wisconsin is a good team and we didn't need to help them and we gave them two bad goals. We didn't challenge for balls and had a few opportunities and didn't bury them."
The Falcons opened the scoring in the 12
th minute, taking advantage of a restart from 19 yards out. Abigail Freeland's free kick sailed over Dominican's
Pamela Ruiz for her third goal of the season.
The score remained 1-0 deep into the second half until a Falcons' corner kick ended up in the back of the goal. Freeland picked up an assist on the play with Kayla Schlosser notching her second goal of the season with a header that beat Ruiz who came off her line.
"We put this behind us and work on what we need to get better at and continue to move forward," commented Carrillo.
The Falcons outshot the Stars 20-11, putting 11 shots on goal while Dominican managed to put just three shots on frame.
Ruiz finished the match with nine saves for Dominican while her counterpart, Concordia Wisconsin's Ariana Worthing posted three saves to pick up the shutout.
The Stars, now 9-5-0 overall and 5-3-0 in NACC play, take a break from conference action on Tuesday, traveling to Lake Forest, Illinois, to take on the Lake Forest College Foresters. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
