The Dominican University men's soccer team won its 11
th straight match on Tuesday afternoon, topping the Lake Forest College Foresters, 2-1 in non-conference action at West Campus Field.
Â
"I was very pleased with our compete level today," commented
Erick Baumann, the Stars' head coach since 1995. "We started the day short-handed and went deep into our bench and got some really good minutes from our bench. That was a good character win for us."
Â
The Stars got on the board in the 17
th minute when
Isaac Perez's corner service was cleared right back to the freshman before he chipped a ball back into the box where classmate
Cesar Franco got on the end to drive a header into the back of the goal.Â
Â
The score remained 1-0 into the 68
th minute when pressure from Dominican University forward
Denis Soldo forced a pass back from a Forester defender to the goalkeeper that sailed over Tero Elias's head and into the goal for the eventual game-winner as Lake Forest responded just 33 seconds later with their lone tally of the match.
Â
For Dominican, the win marks the Stars' longest winning streak since 2014 when they won 11 straight to close out the regular season. On Saturday, Dominican looks to continue rolling, hosting the Edgewood College Eagles for a 2:30 p.m. in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play. With a win, the Stars secure at least a share of the 2016 NACC championship.
Â
"The guys know what's on the line," said Baumann. "Our first goal of the season is to win the conference regular season and we can do that on Saturday."
