The Dominican University women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2016 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) regular season on Saturday afternoon at Alverno College, sweeping the Inferno (25-10, 25-15, 25-11) to claim the third seed in the upcoming NACC Tournament.
Â
"Today's match was a good way to cap conference play," commented
Jeanne Czipri, the Stars' head coach. "We didn't achieve our goal of winning the regular season, but have improved a great deal all season long. I am anxious for the tournament to begin to see if we can contend for the championship and the bid to the national tournament."
Â
The Stars hit a season-best .284 in the winning effort, paced by
Rosalyn Wyse who knocked down nine kills on 21 attempts. Freshman
Katelyn Flayter added seven kills on 17 swings while committing just one attack error while
Kendyl Todd tallied six kills on ten swings over just two sets. Sophomore setter
Jackie Mursuli ran the offense, racking up 30 assists.
Â
Defensively,
Audrey Wyse led the Stars with 23 digs as the Stars posted 49 digs and four total blocks to hold the Inferno to a .072 attack percentage.
Â
The Stars, now 10-17 overall and 8-3 in league play, will close out the regular season next weekend with a pair of matches at the University of Chicago and a pair at Illinois Wesleyan. Dominican will then host the sixth-seeded Benedictine University Eagles in the quarterfinals of the NACC Tournament on Tuesday, November 1.
