Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stars Downed In Home Opener

After the Dominican University men's basketball team narrowed an eight-point halftime deficit down to two, 52-50, with a 9-3 run over the first 2:20 of the second half, the visiting Eureka College Red Devils used a 19-2 run of their own to open their largest lead of the night, 72-53, before holding off the Stars down the stretch for a 95-81 victory to hand Dominican their second straight loss to open the 2016-17 season.

Dominican trimmed the lead back down to ten on two separate occasions but both times the Red Devils answered, including a 6-2 run out of a timeout with 4:22 to play to put the game away.

Sophomore guard Shea Feehan scored 21 of his game-high 34 points in the first half.  Feehan shot 12-for-22 on the night, including connecting on six of his ten attempts from three-point range.  Kendall Davis added 20 points while Hank Thomas and Alex Weigand chipped in 18 and 14 respectively to round out four in double-figures for Eureka.

The Stars were paced by Josh Mayberry's 25 points on 10-for-20 shooting, including a 5-for-8 clip from three.  Mayberry added nine rebounds, three assists and two steals while playing the entire 40 minutes.  Domenic Aiello was the only other Star to reach double-digits, dropping in 13 points in 15 minutes off the Dominican bench.  The sophomore connected on five of eight attempts from the field including a trio of three-point field goals.

As a team, the Stars shot 41-percent (31-74) to the Red Devils 49-percent (36-73).  The Stars connected on 13 three-pointers while Eureka knocked down 12.  The biggest advantage came at the foul line where the Red Devils went 11-for-17 and the Stars converted on just six of their 12 attempts from the charity stripe.

Dominican returns to the Igini Sports Forum hardwood on Tuesday, hosting the Knox College Prairie Fire.  Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
