The Dominican University women's volleyball team saw their season come to a close on Thursday evening, falling to the Aurora University Spartans in three sets (26-24, 25-11, 25-12) in the semifinal round of the 2016 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament. The loss marks the first time Dominican will not play for the NACC's Tournament Championship since 2012.
"Aurora did everything they needed to win tonight," commented
Jeanne Czipri, the Stars' head coach in her third season. "They played great defense and offensively were a challenge to slow down. I was proud of how aggressively we came out and how we finished the match still swinging strong. It is a tough way to end a tough season, but I am proud of the growth that this group made over the last three months."
Dominican's attack managed to hit just .051 in the loss, going just 29-for-74 on sideout attempts.
Freshman
Stephanie Cole paced the attack with seven kills and assisted on each of Dominican's three blocks for a total of 8.5 points. In the back row,
Audrey Wyse led the way with a team-high 12 digs.
Dominican closes out the season at 12-21, going 8-3 in league play, and will miss the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball national tournament for the first time since 2011.
