The Dominican University women's soccer team saw the 2016 season come to a close, falling 1-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) to the regular season champions, the MSOE Raiders at Viets Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Raiders cracked the scoreboard in the 54
th minute, taking advantage of a corner kick. The original corner was headed away by the Stars'
Kaitlyn Tripp but was popped back into the box by an MSOE player, popping up off a few players' heads before Aly Loepfe eventually knocked it in for what proved to be the game-winner.
Throwing numbers forward after the goal, Dominican created a couple of chances, including a shot in the 81
st minute by
Tania Paez that was taken off the goal line by a Raider defender.
"We are really proud of this team and the effort and committment they showed throughout the year," said head coach
Carlos Carrillo following the match. "We grew as the season went on and came together at the right time to make a deep run in the conference tournament. With such a young team, the future of Dominican University's women's soccer program is very bright."
The loss marked Dominican's fourth loss in the NACC Tournament Championship in program history. The previous three losses all came at the hands of the Aurora University Spartans.
Dominican closes the 2016 season with an overall record of 13-6-1, finishing third in the NACC regular season with a 7-3-0 record in league play.
