Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stars Pick Up NACC Road Victory

Charlie Ollis had a career night, logging 18 points and seven rebounds, as the Dominican University men's basketball team picked up a 76-72 win at Edgewood College on Tuesday night in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) league play.  Leading 74-72 with 3.3 seconds to play, Ollis sealed the victory with a pair of free throws, finishing a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line in the winning effort.

"Charlie was great for us tonight," said Dominican University head coach Mark White when asked about his sophomore's performance. "He has worked extremely hard on his post-up game and was very effective tonight. He finished some tough shots inside and was excellent from the free throw line."

The Stars led by as many as 15 points in the first half but saw that lead whittled down to 39-35 at the break.

After halftime, the host Eagles used an 11-2 run to open the second half and take a 46-41 lead with 14:41 to play.

Dominican answered with their own run, outscoring the Eagles 10-3 over the next three minutes to pull back ahead 51-49.

The Stars continued to add to their lead over the next six minutes, leading by as many as seven before the Eagles started to make another run.  Dominican went scoreless for a three-minute stretch, allowing Edgewood to even the score, 66-66, on Sy Staver's three with 4:08 to play.

After Ollis put the Stars back on top at the foul line, Edgewood scored on its next two possessions to pull back in front, 70-68 with 2:47 to play.  Tim Robertson evened the score at 70-70 with two of his 17 points before Mayberry put the Stars back in the lead 72-71 on the Stars' next possession and Edgewood could only score one point over the final two minutes while Dominican ended the game on an 8-2 run.

Ollis shot 4-for-7 from the field as Dominican held a 38-22 advantage on points in the paint.  The Mobile, Alabama, native grabbed seven rebounds, including five on the defensive end as Dominican out-rebounded the Eagles 38-34.

Robertson added 17 for the Stars while Mayberry and Keshaun Smith dropped in 12 and ten respectively to round out four in double-figures scoring for the Stars.

Edgewood was paced by Tyler Lemke's game-high 19 points while Staver added 16 in the losing effort.

The Stars, now 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the league play, return home to the Igini Sports Forum, hosting the MSOE Raiders for a 4:15 p.m. tipoff on Saturday.
