The Dominican University baseball team opened a three-game weekend on Friday, falling to the North Park University Vikings 5-1 at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago. The Stars pounded out eight hits but stranded seven runners while committing three errors in the field.
Sophomore righty
Colin Janison (Las Vegas, Nev.) was tagged with the loss, surrendering five runs, four earned, on eight hits and two walks over 6.1 innings while striking out six.
JT Hicks (Albion, Mich.) went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Stars with three singles while
Mike Piotrowski (Arlington Heights, Ill.) extended his hitting streak to nine games with a double in the top of the ninth. The freshman later scored the Stars lone run of the game when
Nathaniel Natividad (Oak Lawn, Ill.) singled down the third base line as Dominican strung together three hits in the inning.
The Stars, now 6-8 on the season, return to Holmgren Athletic Complex on Saturday, taking on the Cornell College Rams for a twinbill starting at 10:30 a.m.
