Stars Get Back On Track Against Geneva

The Dominican University softball team followed up their first loss of the season with an 11-6 win over the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes on Monday afternoon to move to 3-1 on the season.  Freshman Sydney Kuderna (Naperville, Ill.) picked up the win, her first of the season, hurling two-plus innings of baseball while allowing just one hit and striking out five in relief of Haley Locher (Lisle, Ill.).

Dominican opened a 5-0 lead for Locher with a three-run top of the fourth.  Sara Hausl (St. Charles, Ill.) delivered the big hit in the frame, a single through the left side of the infield with the bases loaded, pushing across Abby Maike (Savanna, Ill.) and Ali Woitovich (Downers Grove, Ill.).

In the bottom of the inning, Geneva saw the first three hitters reach, including an RBI single by Ericka Hess that scored Laura Innocenzi.  After a fielder's choice and a single loaded the bases, Clara Sevy delivered a bases-clearing double to pull Geneva within a run at 5-4.  The Golden Tornadoes then tied the ballgame at 5-5 when Lucia Fee singled to left, scoring Sevy.

Dominican answered back in the top of the fifth, reclaiming the lead on a two-run double off the fence in center off the bat of Woitovich.

The Stars then put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh, plating four runs including another two-run double for Woitovich.

Woitovich finished the day 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI.  Catherine Conte (Elmwood Park, Ill.) and Hausl added two hits apiece as Dominican's lineup wrapped out 11 hits in the win.

For the Golden Tornadoes, Emily Keslar was tagged with the loss, surrendering 11 runs over seven innings on 11 hits and four walks.

Dominican returns to action on Tuesday morning, heading to North Collier Regional Park in Naples, Florida, where the Stars will face the Eastern Nazarene College Lions and 9:00 a.m. ET followed by Olivet College at 11:00 a.m. ET.
