The Dominican University softball team posted their third and fourth straight victories on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from the Rockford University Regents, taking game one 7-3 and game two 10-0, to move to 18-8 on the season and 8-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).
The Stars will look to extend their streak on Sunday, heading to Madison, Wisconsin, to take on the Edgewood College Eagles. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
Game One: Dominican 7, Rockford 3
Haley Locher (Lisle, Ill.) got the start and the win in game one, allowing just one base runner through the first four innings while Dominican built up a 7-0 lead by the middle of the fifth.
Gabby Curran (Elmhurst, Ill.) scored the first run of the game, leading off the top of the first with a single up the middle before coming around on an RBI single by
Marissa Burns (Shorewood, Ill.). Burns then scored when
Alyssa Domico (Naperville, Ill.) roped the first of two triples for the Stars' first baseman in the game.
After a scoreless second, Curran reached on an error in the top of the third and came across when
Ali Woitovich (Downers Grove, Ill.) singled through the left side of the infield.
The score remained 3-0 into the top of the fifth when Dominican struck for four runs. Burns, Domico and
Catherine Conte (Elmwood Park, Ill.) all tallied RBI singles in the frame while Woitovich knocked in her second run of the game with a double.
Working with a 7-0 lead, Rockford finally got to Locher in the fifth when Caitlen Eiben led off the frame with an infield single. Eiben later scored when Abigail Wenwood hit into a fielder's choice with a Dominican error allowing two runs to come across.
After Locher escaped the fifth with a 7-2 lead, freshman
Anissa Becker (Sugar Grove, Ill.) came on to throw the final two innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk.
The Stars had 15 hits in the win, including a 4-for-4 effort by Domico and two hits apiece for
Sara Hausl (St. Charles, Ill.), Burns and Woitovich.
Game Two: Dominican 10, Rockford 0 (5 Inn.)
The nightcap was all Stars as freshman left-hander
Sydney Kuderna (Naperville, Ill.) picked up her eighth victory of the season, moving to 8-0, with three shutout innings and allowing just two hits.
Olivia Babusci (Park Ridge, Ill.) and
Michele Behrens (Frankfort, Ill.) each worked a scoreless inning in the combined shutout for the Stars.
Offensively, Dominican pounded out 13 hits. Hausl led the offensive outburst, collecting three hits, including a triple while Curran an Domico logged two hits apiece.
