The Dominican University baseball team blanked the Elmhurst College Bluejays on Thursday evening at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium, winning 7-0 behind a combined shutout effort from
Ryan Brown (Las Vegas, Nev.),
Royce Salay (Henderson, Nev.) and
Colton Malich (North Las Vegas, Nev.).
Â
Making his first start of the season, Brown improved to 1-1 as he tossed five complete innings, allowing just two hits and a pair of walks while striking out two. Salay then came on scattering three hits over three scoreless innings while striking out three before Malich closed out the ninth, pitching around one hit and one walk to get the final three outs.
Â
Offensively, the Stars collected 13 hits led by
Joe Kukla (Chicago, Ill.) who went 3-for-5 with a triple and a run batted in while
Lucas McKinney (Arvada, Colo.),
Colin Janison (Las Vegas, Nev.) and
Nathaniel Natividad (Oak Lawn, Ill.) tallied two hits apiece.
Â
Quinlan Milne Rojek (Minneapolis, Minn.) drove home the game's first run in the bottom of the second, roping a two-out double to right to push across Kukla.
Â
Dominican extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth when
JT Hicks (Albion, Mich.) singled with the bases loaded to score Milne Rojek and Janison. The Stars then pushed the lead to 7-0 with a four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth. McKinney plated a pair with a single up the middle and later scored when Kukla singled to left.Â
Alex Hernandez (Des Plaines, Ill.) then drove in the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly to score Natividad.
Â
With the win, Dominican improves to 12-16 overall with a couple of huge Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) series on deck for the weekend. On Saturday, the Stars' travel to Lisle, Illinois, to take on the Benedictine University Eagles before returning to Boomers Stadium on Sunday to host the conference-leading Concordia University Chicago Cougars.
