The Dominican University men's volleyball team saw the 2016 season come to a close on Friday evening, falling in three sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-14) to the top-seeded Carthage College Red Men in the first round of the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Tournament.

Dominican managed to hit just .188 in the loss, paced by
Jeremy Royko (Naperville, Ill.) and
Luke Spicer (St. Charles, Ill.) who collected nine kills apiece to combine for 18 of the team's 30 kills. Junior setter
Alex Coyne (Naperville, Ill.) doled out 28 assists.

Across the net, the Red Men attack, run by Matt Reinsel and his 39 assists, hit at a .411 clip with 47 kills on 90 attacks with just ten errors. Griffin Shields tallied a match-high 17 kills while Will Craft added ten.

Defensively, Dominican posted just two total blocks and collected 25 digs. Royko and Spicer led the way with six digs apiece.

The loss drops the Stars to 17-9 overall with the season ending in the first round of the conference tournament for the third straight season. Dominican's 17 wins and .654 winning percentage are both program records.
