Stars Rally In Extras To Top Raiders

The Dominican University baseball team scored a huge win on Monday evening in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, topping the MSOE Raiders 9-5 in ten innings as the Stars fight to keep their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament hopes alive heading into the final NACC series of the regular season.  Dominican currently stands in seventh place, one game behind the Raiders for the sixth and final spot in the tournament and just two games out a three-way tie for second place in the standings.

Tied 5-5 after nine innings, the Stars pounded five hits in the top of the tenth frame, including a leadoff double by Cody Schuster (Las Vegas, Nev.).  After a single pushed Schuster to third and put runners at the corners for Dominican, JT Hicks (Albion, Mich.) plated what proved to be the game-winning run when he doubled to left-center to score Schuster.  Lucas McKinney (Arvada, Colo.) followed with an RBI single and Joe Kukla (Chicago, Ill.) plated the final two runs of the inning one out later when he doubled to scored Hicks and McKinney.

Senior left-hander Chance Emlund (Chicago, III.) then nailed down the victory, tossing a 1-2-3 inning, his eighth inning of work out of the bullpen. For Emlund, the win was his first of the season in his eighth appearance.  In total, the Chicago native surrendered just two hits and walked none while striking out six in his longest outing of the season.

Offensively, the Stars collected 15 hits for the game.  Schuster and McKinney tallied three hits apiece while Joe Kukla went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run and three RBI.  Schuster had a pair of RBI doubles and now has 16 doubles on the season and 48 for his career, four shy of the Dominican University all-time record.

With the win, the Stars improve to 16-20 overall and 9-9 in NACC play.  Dominican will host the University of Chicago Maroons on Wednesday night at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference tilt before closing out the regular season portion of their 2016 schedule on Saturday with a twinbill against Marian University.
