The Dominican University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night under the lights at Langhorst Field against the Elmhurst College Bluejays.
The Stars were outshot 13-10 but nearly found the back of the goal when
Nicolo Vitale collected the rebound of
Isaac Perez's free kick and beat Elmhurst's goalkeeper but was stopped by a Bluejay defender at the goal line in the 83
rd minute.
"I thought the guys were focused tonight," said
Erick Baumann following the draw. "That was a good, competitive battle with a lot of intensity throughout the match. We earned the clean sheet tonight and generated chances but just didn't put one away."
Senior goalkeeper
Gabriel Gongora recorded the shutout, logging five saves while Elmhurst's Donnie Kvien made three saves in picking up his third shutout of the season.
The Stars, now 0-1-1 on the season, play host to the Washington University-St. Louis Bears on Saturday afternoon at West Campus Field. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m.
