Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Streak Snapped At Four

The Dominican University women's basketball team saw their longest winning streak in over five years come to an end on Tuesday evening, suffering a 61-50 setback at the hands of the Benedictine University Eagles at the Rice Center in Lisle, Illinois.

The Stars shot just 25-percent from the field and from three but managed to keep the game close by holding the Eagles more than six points under their season scoring average.  Timiya Ray had a career night for the Stars, dropping in a career-high 21 points while pulling down 16 rebounds.

After the Eagles led by as many as 16 in the fourth quarter, it was a three-point play by Ray that angled the lead back down to eight with 22 seconds to play before 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch for the Eagles put the game away.

"Today we lacked energy in the beginning of the game and focus on sporadic defensive possessions," Gabby Johnson, the Stars' fifth-year head coach said following the loss.  "That is part of maturity level with a young team learning you can't take possessions off."

"Timiya showed us what she can do," continued Johnson. "She impacted the game on both ends of the floor and from a team standpoint, she is the fifth person to lead us in scoring in the last five games. That bodes well for us as we are getting tremendous efforts from a number of individuals."

Fellow freshman Lexi Hoskins joined Ray in double-figures, scoring ten points on 3-for-7 shooting from three-point distance.

The Eagles were paced by Venita Parsons who scored 13 points in 34 minutes.

Dominican, now 5-12 on the season, takes a break from league play, hosting the Mount Mary University Blue Angels on Thursday in a non-conference tilt.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Dominican's Igini Sports Forum.
