The Dominican University men's basketball team picked up a non-conference win on Tuesday night, power past the Maranatha Baptist University 76-62 behind a combined 42 points from
Tim Robertson and
Isaac Moore.
Â
Moore, averaging just 4.9 points per game coming into Tuesday, dropped in 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting while Robertson logged his fifth double-double with a game-high 22 points and 13 rebounds.
Â
"Isaac Moore was huge for us," said Mark White, the Stars' head coach. "He helped stretch the defense with the three-point shot and was a presence on the boards."
Â
With Dominican leading by just three, 26-23, with 2:30 to play in the first half, Moore scored seven straight for the Stars who took an eight-point, 33-25, lead into the break.
Â
After halftime, Dominican scored the first six points of the second half to extend the lead to 14 and never let the Sabrecats get closer than eight points the rest of the night.
Â
The Stars shot 43.8-percent from the field in the win, 28-for-64, and connected on 12 of 15 attempts from the free throw line.Â
Josh Mayberry, the Stars' leading scorer on the year at 17.9 points per game, labored through his worst shooting night of the season, going 5-for-16 from the field, but managed 11 points to reach double-figures for his 21
st consecutive game in double-digits.
Â
Maranatha, led by Zach Terpstra's 16 points, hit at a 38.1-percent clip from the field and converted on just one of their 11 attempts from three-point distance.
Â
"It was a good to get a road win," White said. "We have talked about the need to establish an identity on the road and it has to start on the defensive end of the floor."
Â
With the win, Dominican improves to 9-8 on the season with a return to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Saturday when the Stars head to Milwaukee to meet the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors. The game is scheduled for a 3:15 p.m. tipoff.
