The Dominican University men's basketball team saw a ten-point lead at the half disappear on Saturday evening in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, in an 81-76 loss to the Lakeland College Muskies.
Â
After Dominican's
Tim Robertson and
Josh Mayberry combined for 33 points in the first half, Dominican managed just 30 points over the final 20 minutes while the Muskies used a 13-0 run that spanned nearly five minutes midway through the second half to erase an eight-point deficit and open a 64-59 lead and the Stars would not lead the rest of the night.
Â
Robertson finished with a game-high 29 points on 11-for-20 shooting in the losing effort. The Stars' junior sits just eight points away from 1,000 for his career.
Â
After an efficient 6-for-9 shooting led to 16 first half points for Mayberry, the Muskies held the Dominican guard to just two points on three shots in the second half.
Â
Lakeland, paced by Brandon James' 27 points, converted on 26 of 32 attempts from the free throw line while Dominican attempted just 14 free throws, connecting on 11. Lakeland's biggest advantage though came on the glass, where the Muskies outrebounded the Stars 45-26 including an 19-8 advantage on the offensive boards, leading to 19 second chance points.
Â
Dominican has now lost three straight, falling to 5-6 on the season and 3-4 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). The Stars will continue league play on Tuesday, traveling down Division Street to take on the Concordia University Chicago Cougars in a River Forest Rivalry Series matchup.
