Stars Turn Attention To Postseason After Draw

The Dominican University women's soccer team closed out the 2017 regular season on Wednesday afternoon, playing the Elmhurst College Bluejays to a scoreless draw in non-conference action to close out an undefeated regular season for the Stars.  Dominican, now 15-0-4 on the season, turns its attention to the postseason, preparing for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament.

The Stars outshot the Bluejays 19-11, putting four shots on goal including a penalty kick in the 23rd minute, but could not beat Elmhurst's Bryce Marchetti through regulation and two overtime periods.

"That was a good test for us as we get ready for postseason play," said Dominican University's Carlos Carrillo, head coach since 2014. "Goals are hard to come by in the postseason and we will need to play with composure and stand up to the pressure in the back.  Offensively, we had some early chances that we will need to finish off."

One of the best chances for either side came off the foot of Dominican's Kaitlyn Tripp.  Tripp, who scored on free kicks in the Stars' last two contests coming into today's match, struck the crossbar on a free kick in the 53rd minute, placing a shot just over the out-stretched arm of Marchetti.  The ball bounced up and over the bar for an Elmhurst goalkick.

For the Stars, freshman goalkeeper Abbey Brown picked up her 13th shutout of the season, making three saves through 110 minutes.

Dominican will enjoy a couple of days of recovery before preparing for the NACC semifinals.  The Stars will host a semifinal match on Wednesday, November 1, at 1:00 p.m. at West Campus Field.  Dominican is in search of its first conference tournament championship and first NCAA Division III Women's Soccer National Tournament appearance in program history.
